What is Dog Dental Care?

by dawamart

Dogs just like humans need regular care and maintenance of teeth and gums to ensure healthy, long lasting teeth and overall wellness. A common misconception among owners is that because their dog chews on toys, treats, and occasionally things they should not, their teeth get a good enough cleaning. This is just not so. Your dog’s teeth need proper care and cleaning on a regular basis.

Good oral health takes conscious effort for dogs just as much as it does for humans. Think about it: you chew your food, your fingernails, gum, and even your pen tops everyday, but that does not clean your teeth or freshen your breath. If you don’t clean your teeth, tartar builds up causing gum irritation and bad breath (better known as gingivitis), which will eventually cause tooth decay and tooth loss.

The good news for dogs is they’re not as prone to cavities as human beings are. Grown dogs can learn to become comfortable with dog teeth cleaning, but make things easier for yourself by working with your dog as a puppy.

I am a new client of Natural Wonder Pets. Recently I purchased the Denta Sure spray. Both my pups and cat doesn't like the spray sound. Is there an alternative on how to apply?

dog dental mom of a 2-year-old dog

I agree with you. I have a 2-year old dog now that had bad breath issues before. I wasn't aware that dogs too, like humans, need proper pet dental care. After a visit from our vet, I learned how to take care of his teeth & gums. This was important to me too because I have my kids at home who love hugging & kissing our dog. I don't want bacteria from my dog's mouth spreading to my kids. Eeeekkk... Aside from brushing his teeth, I give him dog chews and chemical rinses. I love my dog very much and I don't want him suffering from any pain or infection so it's really important that I take care of his dental health. After all, prevention is better than cure.
