something to stop bleeding?

my 2 yr old boxer has a bump on his ear and it is bleeding. the vet wrapped it temporarly with a bandage wrap. until we can get back there tommorrow. but the wrap has came off and if i ould use something to stop the bleeding it would help so much. i know he is tired of the wrappings. I was told by the vet to use flour or cornstarch but i just dont know how to apply it. could someone please help me?
