The Heartbreak Of
Dog Cancer - Cat Cancer

I Want You To Sit Down And Take A Deep Breath, Look Your Best Friend In The Eyes And Say, "We're Going To Get Through This Nightmare Together - Alive And Well... I Promise You."

Dog cancer and cat cancer are the number one avoidable killers of our beloved companions. This dread disease is fairly common in dogs and cats over 5 years old, and the chances of your best friend coming down with cancer increase with age. Some reports show that as many as half of all dogs and cats die of cancer.

Yet cancer is treatable and beatable.

As responsible pet parents we must learn to observe a strict regimen that includes a healthy diet, exercise, sunlight, lots of affection, vitamin/mineral supplements, and two very important herbal extracts, which I will explain below.

Diagnosis

Cancer is not a single disease but rather a family of diseases characterized by abnormal cell growth. There are three basic forms of cancer in dogs and cats:

Carcinomas begin in epithelial tissue – the lining cells covering the surfaces and interior structures of glands, vessels, and ducts.

Sarcomas are usually fleshy, somewhat rare, and develop out of connective and fibrous tissue, or directly from blood vessels.

Leukemias and lymphomas are born in the blood-forming cells or bone marrow and lymph nodes.

An early diagnosis will sometimes nip dog cancer and cat cancer in the bud and will always improve chances of beating it altogether. While blood tests alone cannot diagnose most cancers, they can help a vet narrow the diagnosis and rule out other possible diseases with similar symptoms.

Your veterinarian may want to perform more than one test to obtain an accurate diagnosis. Often a tiny piece of the tumor is removed (an incisional biopsy) for diagnosis. The material extracted is then examined under a microscope and a proper diagnosis made.

Unfortunately, unlike holistic veterinarians, the impulse for many conventional veterinarians is to cut first and ask questions later. The problem with such minor surgery (including simple needle aspirates) is that cancer cells freed while excising tissue remain alive as they travel through the bloodstream, forming new tumors at distant sites. Instead of risking such metastasis, it is always more prudent to first treat with non-invasive herbal remedies and then assess the results.

Tumors

Tumors are not uncommon, especially on aging dogs and cats. Tumors may develop in any part of the animal including the brain, with symptoms evident over time or abruptly. Tumors in the front of the brain can lead to pacing, seizures and odd behaviors that seem out of character for your dog or cat.

Tumors that develop in the lymph nodes often present as swellings with no other symptoms. The most common malignant cat and dog cancers are mast cell tumors and lymphoma.

Lymphoma

Lymphoma in canines, or lymphosarcoma, is malignancy of the lymphatic system, striking the lymph nodes, spleen, liver and other organs. Lymphomas occur in middle-aged to older dogs and cats with no preference to breed.

Lymphoma is considered a systemic disease, which makes surgery and radiation impractical and ineffective. Untreated, lymphoma spreads aggressively and can be fatal. Both feline and canine lymphoma can appear in, or spread to, any part of the body where there is lymph tissue.

Fortunately, lymphoma is also the most treatable of feline and canine cancers. Nutrition is always important, and especially when lymphoma is the issue, the anti-cancer properties of good nutrition, including vitamin/mineral supplements and herbal medicine, can be life saving to your dog or cat.

Natural Treatment

Like human bodies, our pet’s bodies contain DNA repair mechanisms which form the basis of many herbal and preventive treatments. Advances in genetics have identified two families of genes that control dog cancer and cat cancer in a Yin and Yang fashion.

Oncogenes promote cancer, while tumor-suppressor genes inhibit tumor growth. Emerging clinical evidence indicates that herbal medicines and nutrients can profoundly affect these genes in beneficial ways.

Recommended Herbal Treatment

Extensive research gathered from the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia, the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia, Native American and Canadian herbal remedies, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Maryland Medical Center, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, indicates the following herbs:

Burdock Root (Arctium lappa) is a purifying herb that can be used to support the cleansing properties of the liver and kidneys. It serves as a blood purifier and helps to remove harmful toxins from the body. The root is made up of carbohydrates which increase the beneficial bacterium in the body and eliminate bacteria related to disease. The carbohydrates will also help to balance sugar levels due to hyperglycemia, stimulate the immune system and suppress abnormal cell growth in humans and animals.

Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus rubra). The viscous fiber has several beneficial effects on digestion, reducing bowel transit time; absorbing toxins from the bowel; increasing fecal bulk and diluting stool materials; reducing stool contact with the intestinal mucosa; and enhancing beneficial bacteria in the gut thereby providing an excellent substrate for bacterial fermentation. Eliminating estrogenic anaerobes from the gut can significantly help the body to regain critical hormone balances that are required for basic health. The bark has noted anti-inflammatory activity and because the mucilage resists hydrolysis and digestion by stomachs acids and enzymes (especially active in dogs and cats), it therefore maintains its soothing action throughout the entire digestive system.

Sheep Sorrel (Rumex acetosella). At least ten native tribes in Canada and the United States used Sheep Sorrel in herbal recipes for cancer. Sheep sorrel is detoxifying but, more importantly, directs all herbs in a formula to act on the cancer site. This action is beneficial in dog cancer and cat cancer.

Turkish (Indian) Rhubarb Root (Rheum palmatum) nourishes the intestines, liver and blood. Down through the ages it has been proven to be highly antioxidant and used for cellular regeneration, cleansing, detoxifying, anti- cat and dog cancer, and diuretic action.

The preceding four herbs – Burdock Root, Slippery Elm Bark, Sheep Sorrel, and Turkish (Indian) Rhubarb Root – are used in the popular yet controversial Essiac formula. Perhaps the world’s most acclaimed herbal cancer fighter based on anecdotal testimony, the formula was passed to Canadian nurse Renee Caisse by an Ojibway Indian medicine man in the 1920s.

The resounding claims of tens of thousands of once terminally ill cancer sufferers worldwide cannot be ignored. It is for this reason that I include these herbs in our highly concentrated Primalix Cancer Care Herbal Extract Food Drops, especially formulated and calibrated for dog cancer and cat cancer.

Additionally, I feel that no formulation targeting dog cancer and cat cancer is complete and well balanced without these two essential herbs:

Cat’s Claw Bark (Uncaria tomentosa). Since the 1980s, cat's claw has been most commonly use in modern herbal medicine as an immune stimulant. The oxindole alkaloids in cat's claw strengthen the immune system and also improve circulation by lowering blood pressure. The master rain forest herbalist Leslie Taylor has used cat's claw tinctures and teas to treat cancer and HIV with remarkable success. Clinical studies show antitumor and anticancer effects on dog cancer and cat cancer as well.

Turmeric Root (Curcuma longa). Adding curcumin, the active substance found in turmeric, to human cells with the blood cancer multiple myeloma, Dr. Bharat B. Aggarwal of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and his colleagues, not only stopped cancer cells from replicating but also killed the cells that were left.

Mayo Clinic medical oncologist Timothy Moynihan, M.D. states that “Curcumin is thought to have antioxidant properties, which means it may decrease swelling and inflammation. It's being explored as a cancer treatment because inflammation appears to play a role in cancer. Lab research suggests that curcumin may slow the spread of cancer and the growth of new tumor blood vessels. It may also cause cancer cells to die. In the lab, curcumin has been studied for use in treating or preventing colon, skin and breast cancers.”
