Death By Advantage

by Cora Stewart
(Willow Springs, Mo USA)

We used Advantage on our cat, who was only 3 years old, and it killed him. They swear there is nothing in it to harm them, but it has to have something in it or it wouldn't kill fleas. He was our baby as we have no kids at home. I don't care what they say, I know what I saw when I held him in my arms as he was dying.

Lost my kitty to Advantage on mother's day 2018
by: Anonymous

We just recently - days ago - lost my cat to the same thing. He was having issues with fleas - allergic dermatitis - vet put Advantage II on him. It was a Saturday morning appointment on 3/17/18. By supper time - 6:00 PM, the cat was in distress - large blisters had formed everywhere the advantage had been applied - they broke open, raised more blisters everywhere they ran onto the skin and by Sunday morning he was a mass of open running sores from his neck to his tail, inside his back legs and across his face from whiskers to ears - all his hair fell out and he was just miserable.
Here we are on 5/15/18. I have had back to the vet 4 times - given him numerous baths to try and keep the running sores at bay and dried up and putting salve on them to keep the open areas from getting infected. His back and face were beginning to look better just last week - but when all this started, he stopped eating. He was 14 pounds at the vet when I first took him in March - last visit a week ago - he is down to 9 pounds and tests show no sign of cancer - only systemic shock. Investigation into how advantage works says it is absorbed into the glands below the skin and stays there for 6 weeks.
We tried everything hoping we could ride it out and keep him comfortable until it purgedout of his system.
it didn't work. Treads died on Mother's Day 5/15 - skinny, skinny, skinny. Never ever had this happen with any of my cats using Frontline for years. Please don't use Advantage products.

Please don't treat your animal with Advantage or any other poison
by: Anonymous

It is poison. Don't do it. I know that fleas are a terrible nuisance and just a little chemical on your pet seems like a miracle and for most it is. For those of us who actually killed our beloved friend unknowingly, I can tell you, if you love your pet...don't do it.

We applied Advantage to our cat after a bout of fleas (the product was provided by a veterinarian). we thought his reaction to it was a bit weird....sluggish, not himself....but he snapped out of it. A month later, the second application (according to the directions) caused the cat to be paralyzed and in extreme pain and gave him a hear attack. It was a horrible death and we will never forgive ourselves for being the instrument of his death. Our cat was 5 years old and healthy. I have no doubt that Advantage killed our beloved friend.

If you are considering this and taking the time to researching this, please consider other options...Please.

Comfortis & Cheristin for Cats

My late cat was on these flea poisons and they killed her. The was in June of this year and I am so very sad. :(

Do not use these products on your dog or cat!!!!!

They kill as they are insecticides!

I am so horribly sad I cannot even begin to state how I feel other than devastated.

I have not heard great things about Advantage either so I would avoid this too!

Lost our beautiful Kitty too soon!
by: Anonymous

I used Advantage/Frontline three times in 2 months on Vet's recommendation. Our beautiful cat developed Squamous Cell Cancer and got a tumor under her tongue. She slowly went downhill and couldn't eat, so we had to end her life on New Year's Eve. Heartbreaking. She was our only furry child so we are lost. NEVER will I use these products again!

Dog liver and kidney effects
by: Anonymous

My 2.5 yr old dog lost weight and hair, vomited, and became aggressive to other dogs. Liver and kidney enzymes were off the chart. Stopped Advantage and gave special diet of wild Alaska Salmon with rice for 6 months. She had almost recovered but after another dose of Advantage, she was even sicker.

She is now improving with reversion to oral heart worm preventative and flea/tick preventive on the back of her neck. So far she is doing much better; liver enzymes are almost normal now. Kidney tests are normal.

How bad is Fipronil?
by: Anonymous

I was spraying our house for Carpenter Ants using "Termador", a BASF product containing Fipronil. The Solo sprayer I was using blew up and I was drenched with the spray. It took a while to get out of my soaked clothes and then to get rinsed off. It's been a couple of years and so far, I'm alive to write this. A very scary chemical for sure!

My Kitty
by: Anonymous

I too used Advantage on my 4 year old kitty and he died. The vet said there was nothing he could do. I now refrain from using this poison on my other pets.
