Border Collie with stiff hind legs

by Charla
(Alice Springs, Australia)

Hello pet-lovers -

We have a much loved 6 year-old Border Collie who has always been an incredibly active and bouncy dog. Recently though his back legs have been noticeably 'stiff', especially if he has been sitting or lying down for a long time, and it seems to me, when it's been raining. When he limbers up however he soon seems fine, and doesn't seem to be displaying any pain.

I'm wondering first if this is something we should take him to the vet for (I think I will), and secondly whether anyone has any advice on simple lifestyle changes that might make him more comfortable - a change in diet, supplements, a different exercise routine...?

We love him so much and don't want him to be in pain. Thanks in advance for your comments and advice.
