Bad Reaction To Zodiac Spot On

by Karen M.
(New Jersey)

I started using your TripleSure Flea spray after my 15 Year old Yorkie got a really BAD reaction to Zodiac Spot on. A worker at Pet Smart told me to try Zodiac and after 2 hours after the application she started twitching. I quickly gave her a bath in Dawn Dish Detergent. I took her to the Vet who gave her a shot of Dexamethasone and Benadryl. Zodiac was only on my dog for 2 hours and made her sick for 3 days. I tried your product and so far it has been working well. I like the smell and she doesn't seem to mind it. I was wondering if you have any Shampoo products to buy. My yorkie has such sensitive skin and I wanted to know what type of Shampoo you would recommend me using. Thanks so much for all of your help!

Editor's note: Thank you, Karen. I've heard of numerous adverse reactions to Zodiac and hope others in our community add their stories to your post. Your question about flea and tick shampoo (along with other TripleSure questions) is answered here.

**WE WANT YOU TO PLEASE PROTECT YOUR DOG!!
by: Anonymous

....from Zodiac Powerspot.
We have just experienced a life threatening experience with our 3.5lb female chihuahua! (not to mention all other 4 family dogs, 3 chihuahuas under 5lbs and a pekingese had chronic diarrhea for 2 days, along with loss of appetite). Within 24hrs of dispensing the drops on each back of neck (using 1 tiny tube between our 2 smallest chihuahua's). Our little girl was profusely bleeding from the rectum!!! we took her to our vets who advised immediate emergency care.... 3-days of emotional stress and huge $$$ she luckily pulled through. The experience has emotionally drained us (not to mention our account!). Dispensing this drop was the ONLY thing we did differently to ALL of our family dogs.

I have used zodiac on my dogs several time just the spot on treatment I have never had a problem. I will not use any flea treatment shampoos as dawn dish soap works amazing and much safer. Every animal reacts differently however I do not suggest that you use it on cats I don't get why they even sell it for cats. I am truly sorry you had these reactions so sad I recommend advantage over zodiac of course. I do not trust frontline of hartz products zodiac is not with hartz.

Zodiac Flea Shampoo almost killed my dog!
by: Chealsy L

I wish I would have read this before I bathed my dog in it. My Staffordshire Terrier was two years old at the time of the incident. I bathed her with the average amount of shampoo. The same amount I had always used which is roughly a tablespoons worth. I washed her and then dried her like normal when she got out of the tub her back leg began to tremble. Within minuets she was having full body seizures. It took two weeks, a medically induced coma, countless tests, and medication. The bill tallied over $1500. We were lucky she survived with no residual effects. The vets were almost certain the seizures were going to cause damage to her brain and organs. She was given to me as a stress pet and she is my family. I had two vets report this to the ASPCA for me and they did every test they could to further prove my case and still nothing has been done to this horrendous company! I just hope others see this story so they don't have to go through this or worse.

Zodiac needs to be banned
by: Anonymous

I wish I had seen this post before. I too bought Zodiac flea shampoo from our local Pet Value naively thinking that they would never sell something that would be poisonous to my pet. I used it on my 1 year old morkie. I made sure not to get it in his mouth or eyes. The next morning, he woke up vomiting and continued to vomit approximately 20 more times until he was completely weak and dehydrated. By the end of the day he had blood in his vomit and in his stool. Rushed him to the vet only to find out that the Zodiac shampoo we purchased contains Pyrethrin and pyrethroid insecticides which are highly toxic. The vet said that because he had fleas and was biting at his skin, he must have ingested residue from the shampoo. The vet suggested washing him in blue Dawn to get this residue off of his body. He was given an anti nausea shot to stop him from vomiting and a sulcrate suspension to coat his stomach due to the blood in his stool and vomit. I cannot believe that this shampoo could cause this. We are into day 2 and although he is showing some improvement, he still has diarrhea and blood in his stool, refuses to eat and sleeps all day. I'm really hoping he shows some improvement tomorrow or it will be back to the vet and more bills. Do not use this product under any circumstances. I don't know how Hartz who manufactures this product is still in business. I don't want anyone to have to go through what we are going through as I couldn't imagine what I would do if anything happens to my baby boy!

Zodiac Spot On is a poison!!!
by: Shmulik

Unfortunatelly I didn't do the thorough research about this product and used it on our cat and the next day the cat was in bad physical condition. We had to rush to the vet, who concluded that cat is poisoned. Doctor said it was not the first time in his practice that cats were poisoned by this product. He washed off the product thoroughly and performed IV therapy, that cost us about 800$. It took almost 10 days for our cat to fully recover from this incident. Never-never buy and use this product.

Bad Reaction to Zodiak Flea Treatment
by: Anonymous

My little daschund, Isabella, after using Zodiak for one month, developed red bumps all over her body. Assumed this was due to an allergic reaction to the pollen in florida. The red bumps turned to black spots and left scars on her body. I have given her zodiak for 2 months now. Just noticed red bumpy rash under her tummy and front legs. Did some investigating online to find out causes and came across supporting reports that Zodiak Flea and Tick medicine caused the same for other dogs. Will definately switch to something organic from now on. Thank God it was not life threatening.

Awful Reaction to Chemicals in ZODIAC
by: Linda M

Unknowingly, my husband picked up ZODIAC SPOT ON as Tick season is kicking in - after following the directions last evening, my puppy (6 yrs) is having trouble walking (hind legs) He has NEVER had issues with walking
The application was applied as directed to his upper back and tail area. He had to be carried out this a.m. Benadryl is helping but what an AWFUL helpless feeling this is ... wish we had a clue this could be so dangerous...

We buy all natural products - including food, shampoo etc WHY did we not think about insect control and look for a more natural solution!! I feel I need to warn others

Shampoo for sensitive skin
by: Jennifer

I love that you can use the Triple Sure for shampooing too, but thought I would add this note for those who have dogs with sensitive skin.

I use a natural oatmeal shampoo on my Rottweiler, and it really helps soothe his skin. You can get it in lots of places. I make sure to only use a natural shampoo with no chemicals added to it ;0)

I will be forever grateful that I found Gary Le Mon and his products! My Rottie Chevy is grateful too, he sends a big paw up and woof!

Our little Suzie had a bad reaction to Frontline
by: Janet R

Thanks for telling your story. Here's mine. We put Frontline on our little cat Suzie and she had a bad reaction too. She ran wildly through the house and I could see her muscles twitching out of control. She hates baths, but I had no choice but to wash the toxic stuff off immediately. We will never use a chemical pesticide again (like Frontline or Advantage) when there are good, safe and effective natural flea control treatments. We nearly lost her. She's okay now, thank God.
